About Fargo, North Dakota

Fargo, North Dakota does not compete with New York City or San Francisco. It is not a primary travel destination and doesn’t pretend to be. There are no major sights like an Eiffel Tower or Brooklyn Bridge to draw hoards of tourist to Fargo. But don’t discount Fargo as a desirable destination. Fargo boasts plenty of fresh air, friendly people, family fun and frontier to explore. Enjoy an American Indian powwow, a real cowboy rodeo and old-fashioned fairs. Step back in history at Bonanzaville Pioneer Village. The restored village includes 40 buildings, stagecoach rides, antique automobiles, tractors and fire trucks, and over 400,000 artifacts. On the other hand, see the latest in electric cars being produced at the Global Electric Motorcar Plant or take a spin at Driverz, the second largest indoor amusement park in the United States. The Fargo Air Museum features a Super Corsair, one of only three in the world and dozens of other historic aircraft. The Roger Maris Museum honors the legendary Fargo native who first broke Babe Ruth’s longstanding homerun record in 1961. The Red River Valley Speedway features stock car, sprint car and the World of Outlaws racing. The FARGODOME hosts rodeos, circuses, football, baseball and festivals. Feeling lucky? Visitors strike it rich or loose their shirts at area casinos like Cactus Jack’s Gold Rush Casino or the Blue Wolf Casino.

Moorhead, Minnesota, Fargo’s twin city, is located only minutes away across the Red River. Moorhead has a predominately Scandinavian population and area activities reflect the foods, fun and festivals of Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. At the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center a 76-foot long Viking ship replica that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1982 stirs dreams of adventures at sea.

Don’t compare Fargo with movie by the same name. Although the movie was named for Fargo, the dark comedy Fargo was not filmed in Fargo, North Dakota and bears little resemblance to the city. However, Fargo has its share of stardom. Check out the signatures and hand prints at Celebrity Walk of Fame at the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Center. Bill Gates, Richard Simmons, Neil Diamond, Dr. Ruth and George W Bush are just a few of the celebrities who have visited Fargo.
