Fargo North Dakota

Chances are you may have heard of the small town of Fargo, but have you ever seen it in a movie, especially in the bar where the film's opening scene is set? Although none of these films were made in Fargo itself, many people refer to Fargo as referring to the 1996 Coen Brothers film of the same name starring Fargo co-stars Joel and Ethan Hawke. Fargo is only mentioned twice in this film, and that was enough to secure Frances McDormand her first Oscar. If you live in North Dakota, the state with the highest homicide rate of any state in the US, you may have seen or even heard of Fargo at some point in your life.

The city was originally called Centralia, but was renamed Fargo after the arrival of the Fargo - North Dakota Express Railroad in 1884. Fargo's growth pushed south and west beyond the city limits, and travel in the region was revolutionized.
